The £38 Bourbon That Divided Our Panel

During our October 2025 testing sessions, Woodford Reserve created the biggest scoring gap we've seen. Panel member Sarah (22 years bourbon experience) ranked it 12th of 12 bourbons tested. Meanwhile, David (2 years experience) placed it 2nd. We recorded 480 individual score entries (8 tasters × 12 bourbons × 5 criteria). We captured one criteria set per taster per bourbon in the final evaluation round (8×12×5 = 480). Earlier rounds were calibration; only the final round fed the dataset.

Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select, bottled at 45.2% ABV (90.4 proof), sits in an awkward position. Standard UK pricing is £37.50 at Tesco and £37.95 at The Whisky Exchange (checked Oct 17, 2025). At these prices, Woodford Reserve is about 40.6% higher than Buffalo Trace at £27 on current UK shelf pricing.
